cockatiels and parakeets in the same cage?
i have told yes they can and no they cant. know i just want pal for my cockatiel. i know that best keep differ cages for about week or more. thing is that i dont have the money set up another cage for another cockatiel. the cage that i have right now is big. so can get straight answers. tell yes or no or recommend another bird. plus my cockatiel used to live with parrotlet.
Unfortunately it's not just a straight yes or no answer. Like people, birds can take a liking to someone / something, or an instant dislike.
I keep tiels and budgies together BUT my tiels and budgies are all handraised and my tiels were handraised with budgies.
Oddly enough it is generally budgies that are aggressive towards tiels, but tiels have the beak size to do serious damage to a budgie should it want to. Budgies are also dirty fighters and will bite at the legs. A male budgie is unlikely to be able to do any serious damage, but if he ticks the tiel off enough it will be on.
I would only attempt it with friendly handraised birds, but you really need 2 cages to do it. A new bird will need to be kept seperated for 30 days to be sure there is no sickness / disease, and then it's best to put the cages together to see how they react with each other before actually putting them together.
If your tiel is friendly it may be fine. If not, I wouldn't even attempt it.
